With the housing market in such a slump, there is no better time to hone your skills as an appraiser, than now. People are busy looking into all the real estate that they would not have been able to buy, years ago, and they often need the services of an appraiser to complete their goals. Unless you live in an area that has a minimal amount of appraisers, you need to step it up a notch to be able to match or beat the competition. There are a few ways you can do this.
Offer package deals to realtors. Sometimes you can offer package deals to realtors so that the more appraisals you do for them, the more of a discount they get. Buyers know they have the upper hand, so they are going to want the most affordable rates they can find.
Continue your education. Appraiser continuing education courses give you the ultimate edge over the competition. When you can demonstrate that you are involved in appraiser continuing education, clients know that you are constantly trying to improve upon your efforts, which means you are up to date on all the current changes and trends. This means they can depend on a more accurate appraisal.
Branch out. Don’t just stick with doing appraisals for realtors. Try branching out to other areas, like insurance companies and government entities. You may find that collectively you can not only stay busier, this way, but also develop a good reputation on a variety of venues.
